Post Care
-Avoid applying heat to the waxed area for 12 to 24 hours. This includes hot baths, sauna, and steam as well as working out.
-Avoid sun tanning for 24 hours. This includes any strong ultraviolet (UV) light exposure or tanning bed treatments.
-Avoid applying highly fragranced products to the waxed area. This includes, perfume, scented body lotions, anti-perspirants, cosmetics, or feminine hygiene sprays. Only use professional products, recommended to you by the skin care therapist who performed the waxing service.
-If getting a Brazilian wax, NO UNDERWEAR for 12 hours after and AT NIGHT (for at least 4 nights but better always). Be prepared to go home with no underwear on. NO sexy time for at least 12 hours after Brazilian wax.
-Avoid using harsh abrasive or exfoliants in the waxed area. However, if you are prone to in-grown hairs, the day after your waxing treatment, exfoliate newly waxed area with a clean washcloth and continue to gently exfoliate every 2-3 days. Retail products are available for those prone to ingrown hairs including Bar in a Jar and/or the Illuminating Kit. You might also want to consider a VajaGLOW treatment.
-Avoid applying high SPF sun blocks to the waxed area for 12-24 hours after the waxing service. Sunscreen chemicals can be irritating to the newly waxed skin. This includes self-tanning products and tan accelerators.
-Any pinking of the skin should disappear within 6 to 8 hours after the waxing treatment. Slight pinking is normal and indicates that the hair was removed from the root, rather than superficially broken off, as in shaving.
-For best results, repeat your professional waxing every 4 to 6 weeks depending on the area and your individual hair growth rate.
-If you have any questions about your waxing service or after care at home, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Questions
Why should I wax?
Waxed hair grows back smooth and fine, unlike the stubble that shaving causes. Each time you wax, the hair follicle weakens and can eventually die, leaving you with less hair. Waxing also lasts significantly longer than other epilating methods.
Does waxing hurt?
Well, you are removing hair from the follicle so yes, it is going to hurt some. However, it does get easier each time. The hair usually grows slower after the first waxing and the follicle doesn’t get as deep.
How long does my hair have to be... really?
We require that you have at least a 2-week hair growth. It is VERY important to have enough hair growth when you come for your appointment. This allows the wax to grab the hairs easily. If your hair is too short, we will ask you to schedule another appointment, which means you are charged for that day's appointment as well, so please for all of us make sure you haven't shaved, waxed or tweezed for at least 2 weeks.
How long will it last?
Usually you will need to be waxed every 3-6 weeks, depending on area.
Will I be perfectly smooth after my first wax?
It's possible but not probable. Some clients are smooth as a baby's bottom after their first experience. However, it is common that after the first 2 or 3 waxings you may feel a wee bit of stubble. NO shaving, tweezing or waxing between visits as this will cause the hair growth to be in different cycles.
Are there reactions?
Yes, it is unlikely but sometimes you may have a histamine reaction. Some people take Benadryl or other antihistamine before your wax.
What do I wear to my waxing appointment?
You will be most comfortable if you wear loose fitting clothing and nothing too tight on the area that you are being waxed. For any Bikini waxes, I suggest wearing a skirt, nothing tight and no panties when you leave. We need this area to breathe. For back or chest waxes, it would be a good idea to wear a loose t-shirt. Sometimes you will have little blood drops. This is nothing to be concerned about. The hair was simply attached to its food source which is blood.
Do I need to get naked?
No, not completely. However, for a bikini or Brazilian wax, undressing from the waist down is necessary (but you can leave your socks on). It can be a little unnerving for you the first time but trust me; we do these ALL day long and to us, it's all just skin and hair so, please don't feel embarrassed. We will do our best to put you completely at ease! Please take a cool shower before your appointment. We won’t spell it out… you catch our drift.
What should I avoid after a waxing service?
We recommend waiting 24 hours for “extracurricular” activities or activities that cause you get extremely hot and or sweaty. No working out, pools, hot tubs, or soaking in any water. Also, for 48 hours no sun or tanning beds. If you can't wait 24 hours for "extracurricular" activities, Ouch Balm can be used to protect the freshly waxed skin.
What kind of wax do you use?
We use the absolute highest quality wax available, as well as many different kinds to best suit your needs. All of our waxes are low temperature and gentle on the skin.
I started my period...that means I have to skip my wax appointment...right?
Nope, not at all. Getting waxed at that time of the month can make you a little bit more sensitive, however, it is perfectly fine to get waxed. We do ask that you take a cool shower and put in a fresh tampon right beforehand, but this is something we deal with all day long, we promise!
I am pregnant! Can I get waxed?
Yep! There is no need to be concerned about waxing while you are pregnant. We wax many of our clients up to the time that they are due to deliver. It is nice to be all cleaned up down there before the baby comes. Some are just a little more tender during the wax but not all. And yes, we can also grab hair on your baby bump so you can show it off with confidence!
What is a VajaGLO?
A VajaGLO is a facial treatment for your pubic mound area. You will be treated to a double cleanse, exfoliation, masque and extractions as needed. The best timing is 1 week post wax or 2 days post shave. This treatment can help with ingrown hair, discoloration, and sensitivity due to waxing or shaving.
