Laser Hair Removal Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at robin@gloMcMinnville.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The laser delivers controlled heat to the pigment in the hair follicle beneath the skin’s surface. Because the laser targets pigment, the hair must be dark enough for the energy to recognize it.

Only about 10–15% of hairs are in the active growth phase (anagen) at any given time, which is why multiple treatments are needed. With each session, more follicles are disabled, and hair becomes finer and slower to grow—revealing smoother skin over time.

Most guests describe it as warm pinpricks or a light rubber band snap against the skin. Our laser features an advanced cooling head that significantly reduces discomfort, making the treatment very tolerable. During your consultation, we can perform a quick test pulse so you know exactly what to expect. Many people say it’s less painful than waxing.

None! You may have mild redness right after treatment, but it usually fades quickly. You’ll just need to protect the treated area from direct sun exposure and avoid tanning beds. Otherwise, you can jump right back into your normal routine.

Many clients notice a reduction in hair growth after their very first session, though results vary from person to person. The area treated, your hair’s color and thickness, and your skin tone all play a role. With each treatment, hair grows back finer, lighter, and more sparse.

Laser hair removal provides long-term hair reduction. We recommend touch-up sessions as needed to maintain smooth results. Hormonal areas (like the face or bikini line) may need more frequent maintenance. Hormonal changes—such as pregnancy, breastfeeding, menopause, starting or stopping birth control or HRT—can also lead to regrowth. Some hormonal IUDs may contribute to increased regrowth for certain individuals.

Yes! Once any irritation or swelling has resolved, you can shave as needed between appointments. We actually ask clients to arrive with a fresh same-day shave in the treatment area.

Please avoid waxing, sugaring, plucking, epilating, or depilatory creams between sessions—your hair follicle needs to be intact for the laser to work effectively.

Absolutely. Your safety is our top priority. In Oregon, laser hair removal is highly regulated and can only be performed by Certified Advanced Estheticians (CAEs), registered nurses, or physicians. At Glo, all laser treatments are performed by extensively trained and certified CAEs.

We carefully assess your Fitzpatrick skin type, medical history, and medications before customizing your treatment settings. Our advanced laser technology includes built-in skin tone calibration to enhance safety, comfort, and results.

We follow strict safety protocols, are fully HIPAA-compliant, and document every session to ensure consistent, effective care. Laser hair removal is a precise, technical treatment—and experience matters.

We do not perform laser hair removal during pregnancy.

Most areas typically require 6–12 sessions as a starting point, but everyone is different. Hair type, genetics, hormones, and the area treated all affect the number of treatments needed. Hormonal areas (face, bikini, underarms) may require additional sessions.

Clients with PCOS, on certain birth control methods, or undergoing hormonal transitions may need ongoing maintenance. After a full series, many clients only shave once every 3–4 weeks—and the few hairs that return are much finer and slower growing.

We know that the cost of Laser Hair Removal can look daunting since we only offer it in packages.  We do this to ensure that you receive exactly the results that you want.  We do offer financing with Care Credit with no interest if paid in full within 6 months or we take any major credit card.  Packages range from $260-1350, making it a much more affordable option than the endless shaving cream, razors, waxing or depilatories (not to mention the ingrown hairs and razor bumps!).

Most areas of the body can be treated as long as:
• Hair is medium brown or darker
• Hair is terminal (coarse/stubbly)
• The area is not over tattoos or permanent makeup
• The skin is protected from sun exposure
